Personality Profiling
Meraki HR have a number of HR professionals and coaches in their team who are accredited Thomas Practitioners. We chose to work and train in Thomas pyschometrics as they are easy to use, and provide great reports that are both helpful to the manager and the employee.
How was it developed?
In the late 1950s and early 1960s, Dr. Thomas Hendrickson developed William Moulton Marston’s DISC theory to produce the Thomas Personal Profile Analysis (PPA) for the work place.
The Thomas PPA determines how individuals respond to workplace situations that they perceive to be favourable or challenging, and reveals whether their response patterns are active or passive; thus classifying the individual’s behavioural preferences in terms of four domains: Dominance, Influence, Steadiness and Compliance.
Using these four preferences; Dominance, Influence, Steadiness and Compliance, Thomas’ Personal Profile Analysis (PPA) provides information on an assessment taker’s fears, motivators, values and behavioural style.
Reliability and Validity
The Thomas PPA has been subject to rigorous scientific testing to determine its reliability and validity as a psychological assessment. The PPA is registered with the British Psychological Society (BPS) after it was audited against the technical criteria established by the European Standing Committee on Tests and Testing.
I always ask people how accurate they feel the PPA is and ive never had anyone say its less than 70% accurate, with the majority of people saying that they feel its 80-90% accurate.
How does it work?
In just 8 minutes, after answering 24 multiple choice questions, Thomas’ behavioural assessment provides an accurate insight into how people behave at work, allowing you to maximise your learning and development budget, gain greater certainty when recruiting, and understand how to avoid staff turnover.
You are provided with an initial report which details a person’s strengths and limitations, their communication style, their value to the business, what motivates them, their basic fears and how they behave under pressure. Once a PPA has been completed, you then have access to 18 additional reports that enable you to match people to jobs, sift CVs, manage, coach, develop and train your people.
Why use Personality Profiling?
I’ve been a trained Thomas Assessor for over 20 years and its helped me to make many hiring decisions and it’s also helped me to coach and develop people over the years to improve their self awareness and help them to understand how their behaviours can have a positive and limiting effect on their work and interactions with others.
Understanding a person’s behavioural style will allow you to;
- Evaluate their fit for certain job roles,
- Understand their preferences for communicating with others
- Identify areas for development
- Motivate and engage staff
- Improve communication
- Manage performance
- Help you to recruit the right person for a role
