It’s a very challenging recruitment market that we are in at the moment. With unemployment at a very low rate, and job vacancies at an all time high, there is a real shortage of candidates available, so its no wonder you are finding it difficult to recruit staff!
Competition is tough and anyone looking for work is likely to be applying for other roles, so you need to stand out in the crowd of other job adverts/employers who are looking!
We would suggest looking at your Employer Brand first of all to make sure you are “selling” yourself as a potential employer and telling people about how good it is to work for your business and the benefits of working for your company. This can be done via your Careers Page on your website and social media platforms and channels such as LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook and Glassdoor.
It’s time to create a Job description that explains clearly what the purpose of the role is, and what the key responsibilities are within this role as well as the skills and behaviours needed to succeed in the role. Your Job Description should accurately reflect what you need the person to do and should be shared with candidates before they come to interview. 79% of candidates said that the Job description was the most important document they received throughout the recruitment process according to Reed’s recruitment survey in 2021.
Next you need to look at how you are writing your job advert, to make sure its really grabbing peoples’ attention and giving you the best opportunity of people applying for your role.
Now to your recruitment process. What questions are you asking of your candidates that will allow them to demonstrate their skills and experience that are relevant to the role? Design activities for the recruitment process that will test applicants skills to ensure they can do the job that you need them to.
