This is a question we are asked all of the time!
Ultimately, this is a basic maths question and if you want to find out what holiday a part time worker is entitled to, the first thing that you need to be able to work out is the % of their hours versus a full time worker.
So, if someone is working 20 hours a week and your full time working hours are 37.5 hours per week, its 20/37.5 * 100 = their pro rata % which in this case is 53.33%.
If you offer statutory holidays only which is 20 days and 8 days Bank Holiday, a great way to calculate the holiday allowance is to use the government website; https://www.gov.uk/calculate-your-holiday-entitlement/y/hours-worked-per-week/full-year/20.0/3.0
However, if you offer more than the statutory allowance which many employers now do, you need to work out what 53.33% of your annual holiday allowance is.
Let’s assume that you offer 25 days holiday, plus 8 days Bank Holiday for your full time staff. Therefore, you need to work out what 53.33% of 25 days and 8 days is.
25/100*53.33 = 13.33 days holiday
8/100*53.33 = 4.26 days bank holiday entitlement.
You can’t round down holiday, but you can decide or choose to round it up.
